As of January 31st Belfast City Centre traffic will be limited to a 20mph speed limit.
This new speed limit will also be introduced on certain other routes in Newtownabbey, Ballymena, Ballycastle and Ballynahinch. Official research has shown that a person hit by a car travelling at 30mph faces a 1 in 5 chance of being killed, whereas when the speed of a car is reduced to 20mph, their chances of being killed are reduced to 1 in 40!! The new legislation has been introduced to try reduce the number of road traffic accidents there is on our roads and also reduce the number of people who are speeding through our towns and cities. Driving slow can save lives!!
