Oisin Tennyson, a student from Lismore College, Craigavon, was the lucky recipient of New Driver NI’s £1,000 cash draw prize after signing up to the New Driver NI ‘Safe Motoring Pledge’.

The ‘Safe Motoring Pledge’ is sponsored by CRASH Services, NI’s leading Accident Management company, and JMK Solicitors, NI’s Number 1 Personal Injury Solicitors, who both support the promotion of road safety and new driver education across NI.

Since September 2023, more than 1,700 students in Northern Ireland have signed up to the pledge, committing to safe motoring by: respecting the speed limit, never using mobile devices while driving, never ever driving under the influence of drink or drugs, always wearing a seat belt and being aware that driving when tired can kill.

Students who signed up to the pledge were entered into various draws throughout the school year in the over £4,000 giveaway. Declan Oliver from St Conor’s Kilrea came second in the June draw receiving £250, with a third-place prize of £100 going to Emily Sharpe from St Louis Grammar School, Ballymena. A full list of winners is available on the New Driver NI website.

Stephen Savage, from New Driver NI, remarked, “I’m delighted that over 1,700 students have signed New Driver NI’s Safe Motoring Pledge this academic year. I’m also thrilled to present Oisin with his cheque for £1,000! The pledge is a significant commitment for our young drivers and plays a crucial role in fostering a community of safe drivers.”

Jonathan McKeown, Chairman of CRASH Services, stated, “We are pleased to support New Driver Safety Ambassadors. As an accident management company, we believe it is vital to educate young people on the importance of safe motoring as they begin their driving journey. The advice and support New Driver provide are excellent, guiding them from the start and offering tips and advice on their vehicles, different driving scenarios, and weather conditions.”

Maurece Hutchinson, Managing Director at JMK Solicitors, commented, “As a legal firm specialising in personal injury cases, many of which come from road traffic accidents, we recognise the importance of educating young people about safe motoring as they start driving. We are proud to support the efforts of New Driver Safety Ambassadors.”

New Driver NI is a community interest company dedicated to educating new drivers and passengers about making good motoring decisions, aiming to create a community of safe drivers.
